India celebrates ‘Children’s Day’ on the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, in respectful tribute to one who preferred the refreshing company of children to the stifling staterooms of Parliament. Children’s Day is celebrated the world over to honour the tiny citizens of today who symbolize the hope of the future & to renew our commitment to their welfare ; it also brings back fleeting recollections of an Age of Innocence that somehow got lost under the onslaught of Life’s tough realities.
As the day comes to a close, the special day programmes winds up with a peep at the latest chapters in the life of Geetu Mohandas .Geetu toddled into Malayalam hearts in her very first film ‘Onnu Mudal Poojyam Vare’as the innocent fatherless waif who dialed numbers at random & found a foster father at the other end . Wedding bells will be chiming for Geetu as she ties her knot with ace cinematographer Rajeev Ravi on the 14th of November . Simultaneously, her maiden directorial venture, the short film ‘Kelkkunudo’ has been collecting rave reviews at all the film festivals it has been screened at. As she gets ready to approach the alter, Geetu discusses her plans & dreams for the future, both matrimonial & directorial, for the first ever time to a TV channel. ‘Mangalageetangal’ will be telecast on November 14th exclusively on Amrita TV from 10.30 am - 11.00 am at exactly at the same time that she will be joined in holy wedlock.
At 1.30 pm ‘Little World’, with a handful of amusing little programmes for tiny tots that will provide engrossing viewing during lunch time: intriguing Game Shows that will tax both the imagination & the intellect ; a Magic Show in which a 9 year old will hold the audience spell-bound ; a group of extraordinary little children whose stories are profiled in a separate segment – a school topper who sells vegetables in the local market after school hours to make both ends meet ; Ramu whose knowledge of Malayalam films is so encyclopedic he was able to correct a few mistakes in the History of Malayalam Films CD produced by Chalachitra Academy .
Sravanthi Enna Kaniha Enna Divya at 2.30 pm features Kaniha , the heroine of ‘Pazhiraja’. Born Divya Venkatasubramanium, she was re-christened Shravanthi in Telugu & Kannada and became Kaniha as she moved to Tamil & Malayalam. In a confidential conversation with Amrita TV, Kaniha goes behind the glamour of her on screen persona to reveal classified details of her off-screen life & character : how the qualified engineer, made a gradual entry into films through playback singing ,then as a dubbing artist who lent her voice for Shreya in Sivaji & Sadha in Anyan,how she manages to cram her engineering career in between her busy shooting stints .
The special programmes opens with a short film ‘Pancharayumma’ at 7.00 pm , based on a short story of the same name by Smt Lalithambika Antharjanam, the Sahitya Academy winning poetess, short story writer & novelist. ‘Pancharayumma’ is an detailed account of the adventures of a 10 month old toddler who explores his world for 15 minutes of contented solitude before he suddenly remembers his mother. He wakes up from deep slumber to find himself surrounded by his toy friends & sets out on hands & feet to handle each one to his heart’s content ; looks out of the window at the wonders of pattering rain drops, a worm crossing the length of a leaf ;a bumpy fall him makes him realize that his universe is incomplete & he wails his anguish to the world …..
